  1. The discoverer of continent (of America) is anyone, who first comes there and realizes that it is not a continent he has been to before.

Explanation: Discorvery is finding something, and right after realizing that you did actually found something new. (You can't say you are discovering something new before you actually do it!). You can also hear from someone - "I did discovered something", but for you it is just an info. In order to discover something you have to do it yourself - someone else's discovery is not your discovery.

  2. First, define 'discovered' e.g. are we considering who, historically, is recognised as the 'discoverer'? Then discovery of a country within the continent seems distinct from who discovered the various 'countries' formed a continent - the first person who identified the landmass as a continent might not be the same as the people who discovered the individual countries or areas of land (e.g. several people could have independently 'discovered' different parts of what's now known as the USA e.g. one may have discovered Connecticut and another Florida independently and without realising they're connected).
